bipolar links

link between bipolar and epilepsy?
i had epilepsy until i was about 4 and completely recovered...now i've just been diagnosed with bipolar...have you ever heard that there was a link between the two? is there?
This is a difficult question to answer. There is no KNOWN link....
That being said, many of the medications that treat and help bipolar are anti-epileptics, such as lamictal, carbamazepine, and depakote. Scientists do not know the mechanism of action for these drugs, but one could think that if medication for epilepsy help a bipolar brain, maybe bipolar and epilepsy have some common properties, like perhaps the same bad brain chemistry.
