SS Disability and Ups/Downs of Bipolar Disorder?
I have Bipolar 1 Disorder and I have been on Social Security Disability for four years. I take several medications each day to stay balanced but like most Bipolar 1 people there are periods of incapacitating depression and periods of good health. When I'm depressed I have to be cared for. When I'm well, between depression and mania, I look for work and try to get my life together. But it's hopeless because I live in a never ending cycle of ups and downs, losing jobs when I'm sick several times a year then looking for work again. Does Social Security understand this illness? My benefits have never been reviewed but if they ever do will they terminate my benefits because of periods of wellness? Or see how ill I get and how it would be impossible to support myself without these benefits?
SSI review is required every year(or was when i was on it).
Basically they to see how much money you have at the time of the review, and if your condition has improved or gotten worse. This is to determine if your benefits are to be increased /reduces or cut off completely. You'll need yours profdoctor to verify the condition. You may also be listed as permanent disabled which maybe the reason for no review.
First talk with your caregiver about this, then with your doctor
to see if you need a review.
Best of luck!
